The Importance of Using Pinterest for Your Business

Do you want to know a secret? I use Pinterest way more than any other social media platform. Yep, you read that right! Why do I spend hours on this site? Well, for one it’s a playground for inspiration and you can find items quicker than doing a Facebook or Instagram search. I’ve loved Pinterest ever since I knew I could create mood and inspiration boards for each part of my life. I have one for places I’d like to travel to, one for recipes, personal style ideas (which is broken down into sub-categories), and many more.

With visual search increasing every year, it’s evident that Pinterest is the platform to be on. This site alone drives 4 times as many sales as any other platform, that’s a lot, my friend. With this post, I want to share with you a few key points on why you should put your business on Pinterest. Let’s dive in!

Your Audience-Who is Using Pinterest?

Women from ages 25-54 years old are using Pinterest monthly, to search for home decor ideas, the latest facial serum or wedding decor ideas and that’s not half of their searches. Before you get on Pinterest, you need to figure out if it makes sense for your business to be on it. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Will you be able to provide consistent images from your product/service offerings?

  • Do you have visually appealing images that inspire people to buy?

  • Do you have a website customers will be able to purchase from?

If you can answer these questions confidently, then I’d hightail it to sign up for an account now or convert your personal one into a business account.

Think of Pinterest as a Search Engine

I love the simplicity of searching for items on Pinterest! For example, when you type in “black sneakers”, over a thousand pins come up from retailers, bloggers, fashion magazines, and more. You can literally search for just about anything. What I also love about Pinterest, is how much they’ve grown and adapted to searches, especially for people of color. When I first started using it, it was hard to find hairstyle and makeup ideas for black women, but now they have detailed features for these type of searches that make it easier to find what you need to stay inspired.

Boards, Boards, Boards!

There is no limit as to what kind of boards you can create, most boards consist of fashion, home decor, recipes, quotes, furniture, and more! How does this apply to your business? There’s an 80% chance someone will purchase from your business when they come across your pins, I recently just came across an account called “Claw Collective”; a custom painted press-on nail company. What got me to follow them and eventually purchase something, were their videos and how the nails looked. When you have a great product and promote it well on the right platform, the possibilities are endless for you.

Save your favorite Pins from a Website

When you’re surfing the web, most websites have pinnable images that you can save to your boards. For instance, if you’re looking for “black dresses” and your store sells them, it’s important to make those images pinnable. Once that image is on your board, someone else may find it interesting and purchase from it too!

Pinterest is a playground for visual search, meaning you can create amazing stories that elevate your brand. Use it for inspiration, create a community of raving fans around your business, or plan your next trip overseas! Happy Pinning :)
